Michael Leykin, Boys' Director and Founder

Michael Leykin played high school basketball for Saint John’s Preparatory, in Danvers, MA. After the Prep, he was recruited to play for the Babson College Men’s Basketball Team.

He has been coaching at Premier Hoops since his sophomore year at Babson College and has worked with players ranging from kindergarten to college.


He was the Assistant Varsity Coach at Marblehead High School (4 years) and Maccabi Basketball Head Coach (2 years).

Tara Driscoll, Girls' Director and Kiddie Hoops Director

Tara is an exceptionally skilled basketball player and an experienced coach. She is the Director of Premier Hoops Girls Basketball Program in Mass.

Tara grew up on the North Shore in Swampscott, MA and she has been involved in skill development her entire life. She was the captain of the Swampscott High School Girls team that went to Boston Garden two years in a row!

She was recruited to play at Umass Dartmouth and transferred to Salem State University in Salem, Mass where she was a two-time captain and MVP.

She is currently recruiting girls grades 2 through 10 from Marblehead, Lynn, Salem, Peabody, Georgetown, Wakefield, Nahant, Middleton, Topsfield, Danvers, and other towns in Eastern Massachusetts for Premier Hoops skill development and competitve teams program.

Coach Driscoll is the New Head Coach of the Gloucester High School Girls Program!

John Kanarski, 3-year coach

John Kanarski has been coaching at Premier Hoops since 2011.

He played basketball at Marblehead High School and was recruited to play at UMass Dartmouth. There he played all 4 years as a point guard.

He is currently studyng to get his masters his physical education, which makes him a huge asset to our team!

Now John is responible for training players from 1st-12th grade. He also does private one on ones and small group lessons!

Troy Brown, 3-year coach

Coach Brown has a passion for teaching the fundamentals of basketball. His expertise is low post footwork and triple-threat moves!

Troy played for Providence College and was then drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2nd round in 1995.

Since then, he has played professionally all over the world including places like Israel and Africa!

Coach Brown is currently offering private and small group lessons!


Katelyn Leonard

Katelyn is originally from Swampscott, Massachusetts. She has been the director of Fundamental Basketball Camp and at other basketball camps such as Bentley Camp, Stonehill Camp.

She has also privately instructed individual high school level players in the Massachusetts areas through clinics and skills training.

Katelyn is now the Head Girls Coach At Revere High School and we are very excited to have Katelyn join our team at Premier Hoops! She will be involved in our middle school and high school girls development program in Massachusetts.

Katelyn played four years of varsity basketball at Swampscott High School and earned a full basketball scholarship to Division II Stonehill College!

She has been coaching girls since 2003. Some of the places she has coached are: Stonehill College (Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach), Mystic Valley Regional High School (Varsity Head Coach), Revere High School (current Varsity Head Coach).

David Born

Coach Born was born in Michigan, attended high school in Burlington, where he played basketball and football, and graduated from Ithaca College in 1978, playing two years of basketball at the college level. Born works for the US Postal Service and lives in Lynn.

Born said after graduating from Ithaca, he jumped right into coaching at Watertown (freshman team).

Since then, he spent nine years as an assistant at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the late 1980s and early '90s.

He was an assistant at Babson for one year and for 16 years, he's been an assistant under Watertown High coach Steve Harrington.

Coach Born is the current Head Coach of Swampscott High School Boys Varsity. We are very happy to have him as a part of the Premier Hoops Family!


Jahron Giddings

Jarhon is new to the Premier Hoops Family. He is also currently the Assitant Coach for the Danvers High School Boys Team!

He played college basketball for the University of Richmond, where he was a captain his senior year. After college, Jahron played professionally in Cyprus for three years.

Being a 6' 9" forward, Jahron is very versatile as he can score off the catch and dribble. We are very excited to have him as a part of the team because we feel he can be a big help to players of all positions!

Chris Shane

Chris has dedicated a large portion of his life to playing and coaching the game of basketball. He has been involved in many overnight camps, ran individual and group sessions, and coached his own teams.

Playing his high school basketball for Lake Region High School in Maine, he holds individual scoring records there and earned McDonalds All-American honors in his state. He was recruited by Wheaton College (MA) and played until his sophomore year.
 
Chris is a huge proponent of individual skill development, and believes it’s a necessity for players to reach their full potential. He specializes in the fundamentals of shooting the basketball, including footwork, form, and game specific drills that builds confidence in a players shot.

Sean Walsh

Coach Walsh played varsity basketball through highschool and at University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth for all 4 years of eligibility.

He has coached kids K-12 for over 5 years and enjoys teaching fundamentals and shaping kids.

Sean also has experience of working with and teaching kids who have specials needs.

Chris Balliro

We are very excited to have Coach Chris on board as a skills and drills instructor at Premier Hoops.

Chris grew up in Massachusetts and played college basketball at Division I Stony Brook University.

He then moved to Italy where he played 10 years of Professional Basketball.

Coach Chris works with our players on the fundamentals of shooting and creating space for the jump shot.

Seth Stantial

Coach Stantial is currently the assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Endicott College.

He played for Beverly High School and was then recruited to play for Keene State College.

Seth majored in education at Keene State College, which makes him a strong asset to our team.

He is able to connect with our players very well and motivates them to work their hardest in all skills & drills. He currently coaches players from 2nd to 12th grade.

She is originally from New Hampshire and played college basketball at Umass Lowell, a D2 program.

Ilya Gluskin, Strength & Conditioning

As a former football and track star at Marblehead High School, Ilya Gluskin understands the importance of keeping your body in top physical and mental condition. His passion for the functions of the body is embodied in his Bachelor’s degree in the Science of Kinesiology from the University of Massachusetts.

As a senior at the University of Massachusetts, Ilya became a National Strength and Conditioning certified personal trainer (NSCA), qualifying him to be in charge of all speed, quickness, strength and agility programs at Premier Hoops.

Ilya’s experience in training comes from his work at the Boston Sports Club as a personal strength trainer and from training all varsity athletes at the University of Massachusetts, a division 1 program. He believes that effort builds fitness and fitness builds results, which strongly merges with the core values of Premier Hoops.

Along with improving the strength and conditioning of each athlete, Ilya will be responsible for creating a customized lifting routine for each athlete.

Currently, Ilya is pursuing his Doctorites Degree in Physical Therapy.

David Stantial

Dave stantial

Dave has been involved in basketball since the age of 6. He played for the Beverly High School Varsity Team as a junior and a senior.  Understanding how competitive college basketball was, Dave began rigorously training on his basketball skills, strength, and conditioning as a junior at Beverly High School.

In his senior year he was recruited to play for several colleges, of which he chose to attend Keene State College.

Dave’s training and hard work paid off at Keene State as he was named Second Team All-Conference as a sophomore, First Team All Conference as a junior, and National Second Team All-American as a senior.

After Keene State, Dave continued his intense basketball geared training. As a result, he was selected to play for the Vermont Frost Heaves ABA Team, which is currently filled with several former division 1 players.

  • 04/05 Made the Vermont Frostheaves ABA team


Melanie Topel Walter

Melanie Walter brings a strong passion for coaching and a diverse set of experiences to Premier Hoops, including a unique expertise in sport psychology. 

Melanie played high school basketball at a private prep school in Maryland and continued on to play international intercollegiate basketball for University College London.

 In addition to her experience as a player, she has over ten years of coaching experience at the high school and college level and serves as a mentor to coaches in the Coach Across America program.

As a sport psychology consultant in the Boston area, Melanie has worked with individual athletes, teams, and coaches, ranging from recreational players to championship collegiate teams to help them optimize performance and increase enjoyment of sport.

She delivers sport psychology workshops and leadership trainings throughout New England. Specialties include coach education, youth sport development, and mental skills training.

Melanie holds a BA from Franklin and Marshall College and an EdM from Boston University.
